Mesh networks are a powerful tool for deploying scalable, reliable and resilient high speed wireless data networks capable of supporting any type of digital data.

What is a Mesh?

Mesh networks consist of 2 or more "nodes" that communicate with each other via a dedicated, secure radio link and provide client access via a separate radio link typically using the standard WiFi system.

A mesh network is reliable and offers redundancy. If one node can no longer operate, all the rest can still communicate with each other, directly or through one or more intermediate nodes. Mesh networks work well when the nodes are located at scattered points that do not lie near a common line.

The Cougar Data Networks MN4 (Mesh Node 4) is a single, self contained mesh node with up to 4 active radio devices installed. The MN4 is a self configuring intelligent node that is constantly checking for the best route to communicate through. It can change its routing if it finds a better, faster route or if a node becomes unavailable.

Some typical examples of uses for a mesh network are:

• Temporary CCTV systems for events and festivals
• Provide High speed wireless internet access via WiFi
• Secure digital telecom systems

As a general rule of thumb, 1 NM4 can provide coverage to around 200SqM of external area when placed outside. This can be extended with the addition of more NM4 nodes with no upper limit.
