Cougar Data Networks have been installing structured data cabling for over 10 years. It is at the heart of our business and we keep up to date with the latest industry standard issued by the IEEE.

Your network cabling is the veins of your network, moving data from server to server, workstation to workstation. Compromising on quality will leave you with a network that can be slow, ineffective and, at worst, completely unreliable.

Types

We only install data cabling that is recognised and defined by the Telecommunications Industry Association and the Electronic Industries Alliance ranging from 100Mbit/s Cat5e to 10Gbit/s Cat7.

We currently install the following structured cabling standards:

• Cat 5e - 100Mhz - Used for both 100 Mbit/s and 1Gbit/s ethernet networks
• Cat 6 - 250 MHz - More than double the transfer rate of category 5e
• Cat 6a - Future specification for 10 Gbit/s applications. Not yet released
• Cat 7 - 600Mhz - Soon to be released for data rates of up to 100Gbit/s

We can also supply and install Optical Fibre networks on request.

How to choose

Choosing a structured cabling solution is always a trade off of price/performance. The higher the network speed, the higher the cost. That's why we will assess your existing needs and talk with you about where you see your business going in the coming years.

Your cabling could still be in place after 25 years and will survive through 5 to 10 generations of new equipment and standards. If your business grows beyond the capacity of your network it can be an expensive process to upgrade the cabling so its best to ensure you get what you need from the out set.
